Brady Hughes, Roan Mountain

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Brady Lee Hughes, 54, of Roan Mountain, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 16, 2011, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
He was a native of Avery County, NC, and lived there until moving to Roan Mountain in 1967.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jo Troutman Hughes.
He was a 1975 graduate of Cloudland High School. From there he moved on to Lees-McRae Junior College, in Banner Elk, to continue his football career.
After college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1977. His military career led him to Parris Island, SC, Camp Pendleton, CA, Okinawa, Japan, Camp Lejeune, NC, and the Reserves in Johnson City. He has worked for the Postal Service since 1975. He loved the Marine Corps and enjoyed working on automobiles and riding his Harley.
Brady is survived by his daughter, Tessaria Lee Hughes Powers and husband, Benjamin; son, Chazz Alden Hughes; brother, Allen Hughes and wife, Shelia; and grandson, Stokes Leo Powers; and his step-father, Stokes Hughes.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 Thursday evening, December 22, 2011, in the Tetrick Rhododendron Chapel, in Roan Mountain, with Rev. Robert Beers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tristyl Stockton and Richard Dale Carpenter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 prior to the service. Friends may also visit at the home of his brother, 604 Licklog Road, Newland, NC 28657 at any other time.
The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday morning, December 23, in Troutman Family Cemetery with Dr. Victor Young officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 on Friday morning.
