Lt. Col. Allen Fine, CHESTERFIELD, Mo.

Lt. Col. Allen E. Fine, Retired, formerly of Johnson City and Elizabethton, TN, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri following a long illness.
A native of Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late Allen T. and Mary L. Ebner Fine.
Col. Fine graduated from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC, and went on to earn two Master’s Degrees. He loved learning and never stopped. His interest in politics was widely known and he never stopped voicing his opinion of present situations. He was invited into the Mensa Society and achieved top grade averages throughout his years of schooling.
Col. Fine was a thirty year retired veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed a very successful and enjoyable career as a jet fighter pilot flying the F-84, F-86 as well as many other aircrafts. Col. Fine’s flying duties were paramount and he flew during the Korean Conflict as well as in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Medal for heroism in addition to numerous other outstanding awards.
Col. Fine loved telling his stories and one of his favorites was of going into Iran and rescuing hostages from rebels who were trying to take over the U.S. Embassy. The Embassy was in fact taken over.
His interests were varied and he was a collector of various and sundry items. His collection of music CDs was appreciated by many individuals. He never missed tuning in on Fox News Network almost daily.
In addition to his parents, Col. Fine was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Williams Fine.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Fine, Indianapolis, Indiana; and a daughter, Brenda Fine, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Funeral Service for Lt. Col. Allen E. Fine, Retired, will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2011, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Services with Rev. Sharon H. Amstutz officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Noon until 1:00 P.M. on Friday, prior to the funeral service.
Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City, TN.
