KINGSPORT — A former resident of Chambersburg and Irwin, Pennsylvania, Peggy Durnin, of Kingsport, passed away on Friday, December 16, at her home in Kingsport surrounded by her loving family.
She made her home and raised her family in Kingsport for the past 50 years, where she also worked for Nettie Lee Boy and Girl Shop for many years.
Peggy leaves behind a lifetime legacy of kindness, humility and faith that has impacted the lives of countless family members and friends. Her grace and selflessness were blessings to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Helen Douglas; son, James Kipling Durnin; and brother, Robert Douglas.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 63 years, C. James Durnin; daughter, Cindy Pangle (husband, Lew); son, Pat Durnin (wife, Karen); daughter, Susan Mitchell (husband, Don); son, Joe Durnin (wife, Debra); son, Mark Durnin (wife, Sharon); daughter, Kerry Keith; daughter, Jamie Slagle; daughter, Kitty Douthat (husband Joe); 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and longtime friend, Georgia Pierson.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the nursing staff at Holston Valley Hospital and Amedisys Nursing for their care and compassion.
A celebration of her life will be held at Temple Baptist Church (2200 Memorial Court, Kingsport), on Tuesday, December 20. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:30 p.m. and a service will follow.
Interment will be held at a later date in Irwin, PA.
