William ‘Bill’ Smith, Piney Flats

PINEY FLATS — William “Bill” Smith, 72, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, died on Monday December 12, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Hospital.
He was a son of the late Carl Albert Smith and Eunice Vivian Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Diana Knapp; and brother, Carl A. Smith Jr.
He was born in Woodlawn, Kansas, grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and later lived in Garland, Texas, until he moved to Bristol in 1997. He was a member of the Optimist Club, and was known for his great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Lee Smith; daughter, Kim Cooley and husband, Duwayne, of Mesquite, TX; son, Steve Smith, of Cornelius, NC; grandson, Devin Smith, of Union Grove, NC; two sisters, Jean Lewis, of Burkburnett, TX, and Betty Tawzer, of Lathrop, MO; two brothers, Robert Smith and wife, Sue, of Bristol, TN, and Marvin Cleek; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Estel Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edgefield United Methodist Church, 745 Pickens Bridge Rd., Piney Flats, TN 37686.
