CHUCKEY — Lucille Wilhoit, age 87, of Chuckey, the Horse Creek Community, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Durham-Hensley Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was retired from Phillips Consumer Electronics after over 50 years of service.
Mrs. Wilhoit was a longtime member of Hermon United Methodist Church and loved gardening, her family and her church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Rev. Norman Wilhoit, of Wytheville, VA, and Jerry Lee and Mitzi Wilhoit, of Chuckey; granddaughter: Lori DeLoach, of Telford; step-grandchildren: Doyle Tunnell, Darwin and Doug Bible and Lilly Krebs; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Barbara Krase, Edith Wallace and Dorothy Drake.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Horace McLee Wilhoit, who died March 25, 1961; her parents, Boy and Polly Johnson; sister: Eula McKay; brother: Maynard Johnson; and a daughter-in-law: Sandy Wilhoit.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Rev. Norman Wilhoit and Rev. Doyle Tunnell will officiate.
Interment will follow in Hermon Cemetery with Rev. Walt Isley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Tom Daniels, Bobby Byrd, Walter Stone, Doug Bible, Darwin Bible, Art Krebs, Mike Johnson, Roger Krase and Chad DeLoach. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Hermon United Methodist Church and the Lamplighter Sunday School Class of the church.
