Veta Lewis, Erwin

ERWIN — Veta Marie Erwin Lewis, age 90, Erwin, passed away at her home on Monday, December 5, 2011.
A native of Erwin, she was a daughter of the late James Arthur Sr. and Bertha Masters Erwin.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had various jobs during her lifetime, but preferred staying at home, caring for others.
Veta, or “Mimi,” was loved by all, and will be remembered by many. She was a member of Love Chapel Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, Veta was preceded in death by the love of her life, Gene L. Lewis, in 2008, after 69 years of marriage; as well as one grandson, Kelley Erwin Lewis; and three brothers, James Arthur Erwin Jr., Eugene Erwin and Reid Erwin.
Mimi leaves behind: Sons: E. Larry and Joyce Lewis, Ronnie E. and Barbara Lewis; Daughter: Jody and Alvin King; Grandson: E. Lance Lewis; Granddaughters: Melissa and Travis Griffith, Leeann and John Hensley, Leslee and Daniel Collins, Katie Lewis, Lynnsey Lewis; Great grandchildren: Neelee Griffith, Allee Griffith, Hunter Hensley, Anniston Hensley, Destiny Collins, Gabriella Riddle; Sisters-in-Law: Gladys Erwin, Martha Erwin, Gladys Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to thank Veta’s caregivers, Nancy Hensley, Wanda Tapp, and Kathy E. Tipton, as well as Craig and all of the caregivers at Caris Home Healthcare.
Funeral Services for Veta Marie Erwin Lewis will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at 8:00 PM in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home, Ministers Robert Bess and Bruce Shawver will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until service time on Thursday.
The graveside committal service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery. Those attending the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:20 a.m. on Friday. Serving as pallbearers will be Lance Lewis, Travis Griffith, John Hensley, Daniel Collins, Nick Erwin, Larry Lewis, Ronnie Lewis and Alvin King.
