Donald Townsend, Johnson City

Donald Townsend, 76, 110 Wilson Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Earl and Etta Belle Hayes Townsend. He had lived most of his life in Johnson City.
Mr. Townsend was retired from the Maintenance Department of East Tennessee State University. He was a member of the Princeton Free Will Baptist Church.
He loved to play the Guitar and listen to Gospel Music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Julie & Steven Smithpeters, Johnson City; A Sister: Juanita Neeley, Church Hill; A Brother: James Townsend, Martinsville, Virginia; A grandson: Nicholas Smithpeters, Johnson City; 15 Nieces & 5 Nephews; A special friend: Lynn Townsend.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Monte Vista Memorial Park with the Rev. David Montgomery officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Friends may register their presence at the funeral home until 2 p.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.
Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:55 p.m. Saturday.
Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, is in charge.
