Ruby Berdene Freeman, Johnson City

Ruby Berdene Rowe Freeman, 71, Johnson City, passed away peacefully at Holston Valley Hospital on Thursday, December 1, 2011, following a lifetime of service to the Lord and others along the way.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Freeman, and her parents, Ernie and Viola Rowe.
Berdene Freeman was a native of Johnson City, Tennessee. She was employed at Eastman Chemical Company for 40 years as an Executive Secretary.
She served as a pastor’s wife with her husband, Wendell Freeman, in several local Churches of the Brethren, singing in the choir, working with children’s programs and accompanying musical groups in the church.
Survivors include her brothers, E.J. Rowe, Johnson City, TN, and Robert Rowe, Milford, DE; and her brothers-in-law, Ron Freeman, Don Freeman, Roger and wife, Kathy Freeman, and Glen and wife, Joyce Freeman. In addition, she is survived by three step-daughters, Beth and husband, Ernie Johnson, Ivanhoe, North Carolina, Amy Freeman and husband, Arthur Erwin, Tampa, Florida, Wendy and husband, Asher Smale, Guntersville, Alabama; and six grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Lauren Matas, Michael Matas, Jon Eric Johnson, Asher Smale II, Nathan Smale; granddaughter Ariel Smale; and two nephews, Jeryl Rowe and Brandon Rowe.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at the funeral home with Rev. Phil Graeber and Rev. Frank Herbert officiating.
Interment will follow at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
