Ida Smith, Johnson City

Ida E. Smith, 88, 366 Riverview Dr., Johnson City, went to be with the Lord and join her husband, Clarence Smith, at NHC Healthcare Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
She was a daughter of the late Bruce and Lena Tallman Hyatt.
Mrs. Smith retired from Kings Department Store after thirty-four years, where she was a salesperson and was usually found in the “booth.”
She was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Smith loved vegetable gardening and quilting.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, Sam, George and Ben Hyatt; three sisters, Mary Shouse, Jane Smith and Viola Larimer.
Mrs. Smith is survived by special nephew, C.W. Smith and wife, Sara Lynn, who were also her caretakers, Johnson City; three sisters, Ruby Tester and June Frye, both of Johnson City, and Dora Saults, Limestone; several other nieces and nephews, including Vernon Smith and Kathy, George Smith and wife, Beverly, Jerry Smith and wife, Helen, and Linda Carver and husband, Jim, all of Johnson City.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 7:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Crowe and Rev. Richard Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home and other times at the residence of C.W. and Sara Lynn Smith, 364 Riverview Dr., Johnson City.
The graveside committal service will be held Friday, December 2, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Those planning to attend are to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 P.M. to proceed to the cemetery.
