Morris ‘Toogie’ Hunter Jr., Johnson City

Morris Hunter entered into rest on Wednesday, November 21, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Hunter was born June 13, 1932 to his proud parents, the late Morris A. Hunter and Alberta Young Hunter. “Toogie” (as he was affectionately called) was educated in the Johnson City School System, graduating from Langston High School.
Morris served in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Germany, he was a star football player and was given the nickname “Hop Along Hunter.”
Morris retired from TPI in Gray, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jacquetta Mathes.
He leaves to mourn his loss, daughters, Moricina (Gary) Fain of Johnson City; Kim (Seymour) Ray of Bristol, TN and sons, Duncan Hunter of Bristol, TN and James Albert Smith of Johnson City; a sister, Loretta Smith; three granddaughters, LaKissha (Odarius) Williams of Washington, DC; Tara and Elizabeth Ray of Bristol, TN and grandson, Shawn Ray of Bristol, TN; seven great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; cousins, and a very special friend and companion Frankie Hunter.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice nurses as well as the doctors and nursing staff at the Johnson City Medical Center for the care that was given to Mr. Hunter during his time of need.
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Birchette Mortuary “Chapel of Love.”
Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, Monday at the V. A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 6 PM prior to the services. Words of comfort can be sent to the family on or website.
