Ruby Mae Simms, age 91, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Lakebridge Healthcare following a lengthy illness.
A native of Washington County, Tn., she was a daughter of the late John Baptist and Minnie Katherine Lichtenstine Blevins. Mrs. Simms had attended Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Simms, in 1998; daughter, Lillian Penix; son Jack Simms; a grandson, Tony Simms; and a brother, Bill Blevins.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosa Lee Arp; three sons, John Simms, Sam Simms and Jim Simms; three sisters, Hazel Whaley, Geraldine Barrett and Jean Jackson; twenty one grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Simms will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, 2011, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. John Reed officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 20, from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
Graveside service will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Jonesborough, Monday following the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
