Michael Mathes, Atlanta, Ga.

ATLANTA — Mr. Michael Craig Mathes was born July 17th, 1960, to Mr. Russell and Dorothy Mathes, of Jonesborough, Tennessee.
He attended Jonesborough Elementary and later David Crockett High School, where he graduated with honors.
As a permanent resident of Atlanta, Georgia, he served twenty-five years at the Georgia Regional Hospital. As a nurse’s aide he benevolently provided care for people with special needs and other capacities. His compassion for his fellow coworkers and patients was limitless.
Michael Mathes, also referred to as Craig by some family members and friends, was a honorable man, son, brother and uncle who knew the Lord. He was a faithful worshipper. He was baptized and raised at Bethel Christian Church and later became a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and more recently New Life Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Mathes; and four sisters: Sandra Avery (James), Linda Vaught Harrington, Dollie Barkley (Bruce), and Barbara Yett. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Homegoing Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Bethel Christian Church, 701 Depot St. with Pastor Vincent Dial officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 2 PM prior to the services.
Burial to follow at Union Grove Cemetery at New Victory.
