TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Mr. Sam Jack Edens, 80, of Tallahassee, FL, born April 23, 1931, in Johnson City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14, 2011. He died at home of natural causes.
He was the son of the late Harrison and Annie Sims Edens. He graduated from Happy Valley High School, Class of 1950, and played with the Happy Valley Warriors during the 1950 Basketball Championship. Mr. Edens was a Veteran, having served in the Navy (1950-1954).
In 1996, he retired from S&S Pre-Press, the printing business he operated with his wife and son in Santa Clara, CA, and eventually relocated to Tallahassee, FL.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Ralph and Harold Edens; his sister, Ann Valentine; and one grandchild, Daniel Seth Bray.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Chestnut Edens; three children, Jackie Bray and husband, Larry, Kirk Edens and wife, Janie, and Susan Wester and husband, Mike; seven grandchildren, Samuel Bray and wife, Abigail, Jeremy Bray and wife, Christine, Joseph Bray and wife, Carlena, Bethany and Sara Grace Bray and Karli and Samantha Edens; and five great grandchildren, Anna, Bethan, Isabella, Rachel and Theodore Bray. He is also survived by one brother, Tom Edens; and four sisters: Hazel Holden, Wilma Montgomery, Jean White and husband, Phil, and Nancy Alsup. The family would also like to make special mention of his life-long friend, Glenn Parris.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN.
A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Rev. Bob Polk will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Kirk Edens, Mike Wester, Larry Bray, Samuel Bray, Jeremy Bray, Joseph Bray, Tom Burleson, Glenn Parris and Mark Edens.
