Joyce Schweitzer, St. Louis

Published November 10th, 2011 11:02 pm

ST. LOUIS — Joyce M. Schweitzer (nee Bindbeutel), Baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection, Mon. Nov. 7, 2011.
Beloved wife of the late John H. Schweitzer; dear mother of John (Janice), of Johnson City, TN, Thomas (Mary), of Hoboken, NJ, Donald (Mary) and Peggy Schweitzer; dear grandmother of John, Maggie, Kathleen, Jill and Eric, dear sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
Joyce was beautiful, energetic, ready to laugh; she admired life by enjoying it, by giving it, and by protecting it. Her youthful summers were spent along Lake Michigan at the Walkazoo Inn with her brother, Don, and her parents, Peg and Art.
In 1950, Joyce was admired as St. Louis University Homecoming Queen.
In 1946, her brother, Don, was throwing a party, when she opened the front door to receive Jack Schweitzer, back from the war. He privately vowed to marry her at that moment. He succeeded in doing so by 1951. Jack maintained he gave her a name less babbled in syllables; Joyce countered that the consonants were plenty and number of letters the same.
Jack and Joyce enjoyed beginning dinner observances at five. They both loved throwing a dinner party and did so often, but Jack was always more nervous about it than Joyce. Their love, protection, guidance and capacity to worry about their children were boundless. They could not have been more fortunate in the circumstances of their birth, growth, and life.
