MORRISTOWN — MSGT. John R. Bare (Ret.), age 81, of Morristown, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011, at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.
He retired from the United States Air Force in 1978 after 26 years of service to his country. Mr. Bare then started a second career as an instructor at the Tennessee Technology Center in Morristown, where he taught for 22 years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Jefferson City and an active member of the Democratic Party in Morristown.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Bare, of Elizabethton; mother, Beulah Morris Bare, of Elizabethton; and brother, Charles Bare, of Elizabethton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Proffitt Bare; daughters, Kathy A. Knox, Vickie L. Bare, and Sherry K. Spotts; son-in-law, Captain John C. Spotts; grandchildren, Michelle Knox-Little, Shannon Couch, Kristina Knox, Whitney Rasmussen, Megan Spotts, John Spotts and Emily Spotts; great-grandchildren, Brandon Knox, Michael Knox, Tyler Rice, Isabel Viola, Wyatt Couch, Phoenix Hayes and Taytum Couch; and brother, Larry Bare.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13, at Westside Chapel Funeral Home.
Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, at Mountain Home National VA Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
