Billy J. Tipton, Erwin

Billy J. Tipton, age 78, 415 Tilson Mountain Road, Erwin, died peacefully S a t u rd ay November 5, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Tilson was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Mead B. and Opal Whaley Tipton. He was a machine operator for Hoover Precision Products, Erwin, until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Tipton served his country proudly as an Army Corporal stationed with the 7th Army Headquarters in Germany. He was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lige and Ruby Foster.

Mr. Tilson is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nancy Foster Tipton; one daughter, Shirley Ann Tipton, of the home; one sister, Patty Joyce Livingston, Erwin; a sister-in-law, Linda Jones and husband Allen, Erwin, two nieces: Meagan Fitzgerald, Charleston, SC, and Makena Senn and husband Greg, Erwin; one nephew, Calen Jones and wife Melaine, Erwin; three great nephews: Lelun Senn, Noah Jones, and Sam Jones all of Erwin; several special cousins including: Johnny Tipton and wife Marie and John Tipton and wife Regina, all of Erwin.

Funeral service for Mr. Tipton will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 7:00 pm from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bill Ponder and Reverend Mark Morgan will officiate. Special music will be provided by soloists Gary Tilson and Allen Jones; quartet Allen Morefield, Earl Booth, Greg Lynch, and Allen Jones, and organist Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be Dennis Foster, George Metcalf, Teddy Hoyle, Brian Clouse, Cadez Farnor, and Gale Arnold.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm until service time.

The committal service for Mr. Tilson will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the Tilson Cemetery. Tennessee Honor Guard including the Tennessee Army National Guard and VFW Post # 4933 will convey military honors at the graveside. Active pallbearers and those attending the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery not later than 9:45 am.
