Robert ‘Wayne’ Robbins, Johnson City

Mr. Robert “Wayne” Robbins, age 72, of Johnson City, TN, passed away Monday, October 22, 2011, at NHC Nursing Home in Johnson City, TN.
Mr. Robbins was born July 22, 1934, in Washington County, TN, to the late Herman Robbins and Selma Merritt Robbins. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard, who died at birth.
He was a member and deacon of Southside Baptist Church, Johnson City, and was in the Tennessee National Guard for 18 years. Mr. Robbins retired from the City of Johnson City in 1979 due to his health. He was the Superintendent over the Street and Sign Department. Also, he served on the Board at Johnson City Boys Club and coached Pee Wee football and baseball.
Mr. Robbins is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn Williams Robbins, of the home; three sons: Scott Robbins and wife, Ellen, Ekron, KY, Todd Robbins and wife, Shari, Hope Mills, NC, Randy Robbins and wife, Linda, Fircrest, WA; one grandson, Michael Robbins; two granddaughters, Shelby and Leslie Robbins; two sisters-in-law, Pat Crawford and husband, Bill, Gray, and Becky Williams, Johnson City; one niece and three nephews.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staffs of Caris Hospice and NHC Healthcare, especially Shirley, Jackie and Heather, and a special thanks to Vern at NHC of Johnson City.
The funeral service for Mr. Robbins will be conducted Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 8:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Lunsford and Rev. Harold McNabb officiating.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 6:00-8:00 in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday, October 28, 2011, in Monte Vista Memorial Park at 12:30 P.M. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the funeral home by noon on Friday. Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family.
