Norman Miller, Unicoi

UNICOI — Norman L. Miller, age 71, 6115 Simerly Creek Road, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord after a brief illness Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born in Carter County, the son of the late Roby Stewart and Cardie Elizabeth Scalf Miller.
Mr. Miller was owner and operator of Miller’s 66 Grocery Store in Limestone Cove for many years, and owner and operator of Miller’s Tire and Retreading in Unicoi for many years. He retired in 2001 as foreman with Poly Pipe Industries. Mr. Miller was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Miller also loved his church family and was very devoted to his church, Simerly Creek Believer’s Fellowship Church, where he was a faithful member and served as Trustee.
Other than parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Miller and R.M. Miller; and one sister, Pearl Nickelson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Miller; two sons, Norman L. Miller Jr. and Jimmy L. Miller, both of Unicoi; one daughter, Donna Lilly and husband, Sidney “Chip,” Rogersville; two grandchildren, Brian Miller and wife, Sally, Unicoi, and Sydney Lilly, Rogersville; four great grandchildren, Amanda, Lina Kay, Sierra and Dalton; one brother, Gene Miller and wife, Christine, Johnson City; one sister, Naomi Britt and husband, Leonard, Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, and his very special friends, Barbara and Hurshell Scalf, Johnson City.
Funeral service for Mr. Miller will be held at 8:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2011, in the chapel of Unicoi Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Holtsclaw, Rev. B.F. McKinney Jr., and Rev. Randy Gobble officiating. Special music will be provided by Janet Morrow and her daughters. At the conclusion of the funeral service, Unicoi Masonic Lodge will have a memorial service for Mr. Miller.
Committal service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 10, 2011, at Woodby Hill Cemetery. Family, ministers, pallbearers and friends are asked to meet at Unicoi Funeral Home by 12:30 P.M. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hurshell Scalf, Curtis Hyder, Conley Woodby, Junior Gentry, Steve Holtsclaw, and David Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Dean Hicks, John L. McKinney, and Roy Miller. Pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 7:30 P.M. Sunday.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, October 9, 2011, preceding the funeral service at the funeral home and other times at the family home, 6115 Simerly Creek Road, Unicoi.
