Lawrence Milhorn, Kingsport

KINGSPORT — Lawrence Edward Milhorn, 85, of Kingsport, was born on November 5, 1925, at his home place in Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Life Care Center of Gray.
He was the son of the late James and Roxy Hall Milhorn. Mr. Milhorn was a veteran on the US Army, having served during the Korean War. In 1990 he retired from Holston Defense.
Mr. Milhorn was involved in several clubs, including the Kingsport Kiwanis Club, American Legion and the VFW. He was also a TWRA Gun Safety Instructor. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, RA Leader and Treasurer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Sonny Milhorn, Louis Landon Milhorn, Billy Joe Milhorn; and a sister, Myrtle Bell Connor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Ann Maupin Milhorn, of the home; two children, Jerry Milhorn and Cindy Cushman; four grandchildren, Kyle Blankenship, Charlotte Petrides, Landon Milhorn and Michaela Milhorn; and a great-grandchildren, Avery Blankenship.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday with military graveside honors by Kingsport VFW/ Boone Dam Post # 4933. Pallbearers will be Jerry Milhorn, Landon Milhorn, Mike Milhorn, Wayne Milhorn, Kyle Blankenship, David Petrides, Robert Miller and Haril Carver.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, October 3, 2011, at the Colonial Heights Baptist Church, 108 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, with Pastor Dr. Greg Burton, officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Life Care Center of Gray.
