Ulyss Grant Head, age 81 of Gray, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 24, 2011 after a short illness at Wellmont-Holston Valley.
He was a son of the late Dorothy Rhoten Head and John Head. He was born in Duffield, VA, was a member of Gray United Methodist Church and retired from Eastman Kodak Co. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Martha Hazel Head; one son, Timmy G. Head of Fall Branch in 2000, one sister, Mageline Head; one brother, Houston Head.
Ulyss is survived by his wife, Emogene “Jean” McQueen Head; one daughter, Janet E. Jones of Bluff City; two sons, Terry G. and wife, Teresa H., Head of Kingsport, TN, Tommy H. Head of Johnson City, TN; one sister, Joyce H. Alley of Weber City, VA; one brother, Darius Head of Maryville,TN; six grandchildren, Keith E. Jones and wife, Ashley Sullins Jones of Ray City, GA, Brandon G. Head and wife, Jessica Serpas Head of Gray, TN, Brittani S. Head of Washington, DC, Mandy N. Head of Raleigh, NC, Chad B. Jones of Louisville, KY, Alex M. Head of Johnson City, TN; seven great-grandchildren Ethan J. Head, Emily M. Head, Ella M. Head, Eleah M. Head, Easton G. Head, Jaxson C. Jones, Lakyn R. Jones; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6 – 8 p.m. in the Gray United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. with Pastor Lloyd Jones officiating.
Military graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Keith E. Jones (deployed to the Middle East), Brandon G. Head, Chad B. Jones, Alex M. Head, Randy Alley and Terry Nunley. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Slagle, Bill Cooper, George Walker, Ed Heaton, Orbin Alley, Jr. McQueen, Michael McQueen, Stacey McQueen, Russell McNutt and Bobby McNutt.
