Richard Morgan, Roan Mountain

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Mr. Richard Wayne Morgan, 70, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2011, with his family by his side.
He was the son of the late James P. and Mary P. Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a member of the St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Morgan was born October 7, 1940, in Banner Elk, NC. He attended Cloudland High School and continued his education at Lees-McRae Community College. He graduated with a degree in History from East Tennessee State University.
He began teaching in Avery County, NC, before marrying Brenda Jones and moving to Charlotte, NC. After divorce, Wayne moved to Bradenton, FL, and worked in screen printing at Trophy and Sports World. Upon retirement, he moved back to Roan Mountain, TN.
Mr. Morgan was a University of Tennessee Volunteer and a Tampa Bay Buccaneer fan as well as being an avid crossword puzzle worker. He enjoyed playing with children, especially his three grandchildren.
Wayne gave freely of himself without question and loved helping others.
He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Todd and Stephanie Morgan, Cramerton, NC, Jonathan and Ginger Morgan, Mooresville, NC; three grandchildren, Zayda Morgan, Andrew Morgan and Trevor Morgan; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, W.L. and Lavon Morgan, of Bradenton, FL, Harry Morgan, Elizabethton, TN, David and Shirley Morgan, Roan Mountain, TN, Jack and Pat Morgan, Johnson City, TN, Roger and Sally Morgan, Roan Mountain, TN; and a sister, June Hicks, Elizabethton, TN.
Visitation for Mr. Morgan will be held on Saturday, September, 24, 2011, from Noon-2:00 PM in the St. John Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain.
The Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM at the church with Rev. Richard Sheppard and Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Music will be under the direction of Chris McKinney and Dana Dean Young.
The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in the Johnson Cemetery, Crabtree Community. Family and friends may also call at the home of a brother, Roger Morgan, 150 W.B. Mitchell Road, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Arlen Singleton, Dana Dean Young, Tommy Jarrett, Mark Morgan, Jeff Morgan, Brandon Burleson and Dustin McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Clark, Bob Graybeal, Ernest Spool, Dr. Wesley Hanson, the members of Roan Mountain Medical Center, all the doctors at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital and the members St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
