Lawrence ‘Ronnie’ Dugger, Johnson City

Lawrence “Ronnie” Dugger, 81, 904 E. Mountain View Road, Johnson City passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Elk Park, NC but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. Mr. Dugger was a son of the late Ira and Josie Miller Dugger. He was a retired truck driver having worked at Fleming Foods for 39 years. Mr. Dugger was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Maranatha Tabernacle Church in Unicoi. He loved his family, church and enjoyed camping and outdoors. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Commie and Ira “Dude” Dugger and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Olivia Dugger.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Irene Self Dugger; two sons, Ricky Dugger and his wife, Libby of Gray and Randy Dugger of Johnson City; a daughter, Kathy Dugger Byrd and her husband, Roy, Johnson City; a sister, Helen Christian; two sisters-in-law, Lela Dugger and Brenda Dugger; five grandchildren, Chad Dugger, Knoxville, Chrystal Fields, Kingsport, Angela Dugger and her husband, Matt of Sneads Ferry, NC, Jennifer Devault and her husband, Ben, Gray and Jessica Banner and her husband, Aaron of Unicoi; six great-grandchildren, Landon Fields, Madison Dugger, Connor Banner, Sarah Dugger, Neyland Dugger and Kaylee Banner; also several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor E. L. Wheeler and Rev. Everette Sexton officiating. Music will be provided by the Duggers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 PM until the service time and other times at the residence.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 22, 2011 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Matt Dugger, Roy Byrd, Aaron Banner, Ben Devault, Chad Dugger and Ricky Dugger. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the funeral home Thursday by 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
