Opal June Mathis, age 77, 266 Oliver Edwards Road, Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, September 16, 2011, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Mathis was born July 7, 1934, in Washington County. She was the daughter of the late Nat Clint and Gladys Ina Tucker Casey.
Mrs. Mathis is survived by three sons, Ricky Mathis and wife, Jill, Log Cabin Circle, Virginia, Allen Mathis and Lynn Mathis, both of the home; one daughter, Debbie Gardner and husband, Edward, Burlington, North Carolina; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Bernie Casey and wife, Betty, Carlos Casey and wife, Betty, all of Jonesborough, Bobby Casey and wife, Marsha, Richard Casey and wife, Candy, Johnny Casey, Ronnie Casey and wife, Brenda, David Casey and wife, Brenda; one sister, Linda Tolley, all of Erwin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special close friends, Mary Street and Jewel Rice.
Funeral service for Mrs. June Mathis will be held Monday, September 19, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Robert Ledford Funeral Home with Reverend Otis Banks officiating. Special piano music will be provided by Mrs. Pearl Banks and special vocal selections by the Embreeville Missionary Baptist Church Quartet.
Pallbearers will be Mackey Casey, Robbie Casey, Jerrett Casey, Clint Casey, Eric Casey and Deryl Parnell.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011, until service time at Robert Ledford Funeral Home.
The committal service for Mrs. Mathis will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Bumpus Cove Cemetery. Family, friends, minister and pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
