Carl Smith, Blountville

BLOUNTVILLE — Retired Master Chief Carl Lee Smith Jr, age 74, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and was retired from the United States Navy as E-9 MACM, with 25 years service protecting our great country. He was Commander of VFW Post # 4933, and was Senior Vice Commander of District 1 of Tennessee VFW.
Carl was a member of First Baptist Church of Blountville, and he loved spending time with his family. He served his Church and community faithfully. He enjoyed farming, hunting, camping, and was very involved with Veterans services. Carl was a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Patsy Jean Smith, of the home; Sons, Roy Smith and wife, Cindy, Mark Smith and wife, Pattie, Daughter, Teresa King and husband, Mike, all of Blountville; 13 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; Brother, Clyde Smith and wife, Judy, and Sister, Nancy Smith, of Blountville. Also surviving are several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, September 16, 2011, at Tri-Cities Funeral Home, with Funeral services being conducted at 8:00 P.M. in our chapel with Dr. Clay Austin and Rev. Bill Dubel officiating.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post # 4933, American Legion Hammond Post # 3, Gate City Post # 265 and all area Military Post Honor Guard.
