Mr. Lewis Davis, age 89, Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Erwin Center on Aging & Health.
Mr. Davis was born in Madison County, N.C., a son of the late John William & Linda Ramsey Davis. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Stines Davis; and eleven brothers and sisters.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Johnson City.
Mr. Davis was a United States Army Veteran having served during WWII. He served as a rifleman in the IV Corps 5th Army, the 92nd Infantry Division, the 473rd Infantry Regiment and the 1st Battalion, Company C. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon (EAME) with Bronze Battle Star, and he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat in Northern Italy 15 April 1945.
He was an Auto Technician and a Farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Robbins (Allen), Jonesborough; two sons, Gary Davis (Kay McClain), Johnson City, and Jack Davis, of Charlotte N.C.; one brother, Ernest Davis, Asheville, five Grandchildren, Lora Ritchie, Ft. Mill S.C., Cindy Davis, Columbia S.C., Jackie Thurston, Stephanie Atkinson, both of Charlotte N.C., and Jonathan Robbins, Jonesborough; six great-grandchildren, Kimberly Davenport, Jessica Butz, Ashley Butz, Mark Thurston II, Morgan Thurston and Lyla Clair Atkinson.
Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2011, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Gaskin officiating.
The family will receive friend’s from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Entombment services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
