Frank Vance, Jr., 79, of the Biltmore Community, Elizabethton, Tennessee, died on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. Frank was born in Minneapolis, NC to the late Frank and Ava Young Vance.
The family moved to Elizabethton in 1939. He graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1950, He served with the United States Navy Seabees. He was honored to be listed on the Carter County Veterans Memorial Wall in Elizabethton. He worked in Virginia and Pennsylvania as a veneer producer and throughout the county in the trucking business. He was an avid hunter in Tennessee, North Carolina, Maine, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was to be inducted into the Tennessee Hunters Association Hall of Fame in February 2012. He was also a seasoned fisherman.
He is survived by three sons, Frank Vance III, Jim Vance and Ben Vance, all of Nashville; two granddaughters, Torri and Madison Vance; one grandson, Jason Vance, all of Nashville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gerrye Vance, Billye Joyce Vance Fine and Eddie Fine, all of Elizabethton; one nephew, Jeremy Fine, Chicago, IL; an aunt, Mava Young Heaton, Minneapolis, NC; and an uncle, Wood Hall Young, Minneapolis, NC. Numerous cousins also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Vance will be conducted at 8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Dr. W. Edward Fine officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds, organist, Brent Billheimer, pianist, Carroll Bilheimer, and Larey and Chris Pippin. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:30 – 8:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service and at the home of Mr. Vance at other times.
The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in the Minneapolis Cemetery, Minneapolis, NC. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 Am to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Fine, Woody Young, Fin Johnson, Jimmy Hall Heaton, Eddie Burleson, Jackie Blevins, Bill Brown, Larry Dean Kiser, Spud Fritz, and Herman O’Quinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Hallie Young, Bill Shupe, Gary Timbs, Ivan Fritts, Glen Davis, Marion Shipley, Men of Downtown Christian Church, Johnson City, Tennessee and Hunters of N.E. Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and U.P. Michigan. Military honors will be accorded by the Pat Ray V.F.W. Post of Newland, North Carolina.
