Carson Nicholson, Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON — Mr. Carson W. Nicholson, 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Ollie A. and Myrtle Street Nicholson. He was born in Washington County although he lived most of his life in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson was retired from North American Rayon Corporation, where he worked as an instrument mechanic. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Elizabethton. He loved and collected old books, and was a lover of music and singing.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-five years, Blanche Snavely Nicholson, of Elizabethton; a brother, Calvin “Nick” Nicholson and his wife, Candi, Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Nicholson and Mabel Snavely, both of Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Fred Tucker, Hampton; nieces, Carrie, Cathy and Candi; his special nieces who were also caregivers, Joyce Grindstaff, Susie McLeod and June Gouge. Many other special nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Nicholson will be conducted on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Rick Shelton and Rev. Kenley Knight officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kristi and Kenley Knight, June Gouge and Joyce Grindstaff.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, September 12, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Tim McLeod, Andrew Gouge, David Martin, David Martin II, John Gouge, David Townsend, Ronnie Snavely, Carmon Vandeventer and Dwight Lacey. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Grindstaff, Fred Tucker, Freddy Parlier, Doug and Margaret Lipps, Norman Smith, Carroll (Shorty) Wiseman, Herbert Street, Pete Ross, Ronnie Taylor, Mike Pierce, Joe Manning, Bill Weaver and the Men of Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1: 15 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special and loving thank you to Judy and Victor Deloach and the wonderful residents and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for all the love and care shown to Carson and Blanche during his stay there.
