Robert Howard Calloway, Erwin

ERWIN — Robert H. Calloway died Friday, September 9, 2011, at Mountain Home VA in Johnson City, TN.
He was born March 13, 1925, in Erwin, Tennessee, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Smith) Calloway. He was the youngest of nine children. As a young man he served in the CC Camps during the Great Depression.
He was a World War II Veteran and recipient of three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. His service to his country was served from 1943 to 1948. He was engaged in the Battle(s) of the Rhineland, Central Europe and Northern France. He was retired from AAA Sign Company of Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers, Dee, James and Jack Calloway; sisters Helen (Nell) Peterson, Ola Tipton, Orpha McIntosh, Ethel Willis and Hazel Calloway.
He is survived by sons, John Calloway (Jennifer), James Calloway (Penny), of Kingsport; and daughter, Betty Ann Koontz (Robert), of Jonesborough; grandchildren, David Calloway (Angela), Rhonda Straley, Renee Calloway, Katrinka Calloway Unold (Eric), Ginger Wright (Ben) and Ashley Berry (Terry); step-grandchildren Joshua Brazee (Jennifer) and Lindsey Brazee Sheffield (John); nieces, Doris Rizzuto (Michael), Betty Cox (Bill), Anna Pratt (Bob), Rosa Harris (Theodore), Opal Tapp, Jamie Coomer (Rick) and Nancy Corby (TL); nephews, Steve Calloway (Kay), Jack Calloway (Brenda), Wayne Calloway; and several great-grandchildren.
Interment and Military Honors will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery.
