Fred Honeycutt, Roan Mountain

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Mr. Fred Honeycutt, age 91, 128 Orr Street, Roan Mountain, TN, went to heaven on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
He served the Lord after being saved on December 22, 1941, up to the day of his death. He was a member of the Roan Mountain Holiness Church, where he taught Sunday School for thirty years, and also served as the Sunday School Superintendent, church trustee and church treasurer.
He had been a member of the Roan Mountain Citizens Club since 1947, and was very instrumental in working for the establishment of the Roan Mountain State Park by traveling to Nashville many times to see the Park come to fruition.
He was a retired salesman for Moffitt Bearings in Kingsport, TN, and he worked as a purchasing agent at NARC for twenty years. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, with service four years and three months and served during WWII.
Mr. Honeycutt was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Isabelle Garland Honeycutt; his brothers, Zeb, Earl, Paul, Frank; and a sister, Mae Honeycutt Tipton.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Ann Ruth Orr Honeycutt; a son, Rev. Gene L. Honeycutt; daughter-in-law, Jean Ollis Honeycutt; and grandchildren, Amber Honeycutt and Jeremy Honeycutt. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces, sisters-in-law, Frances Tatum, Jessie Street, Phyllis Orr, Mary Bell Orr; and brothers-in-law, Kale Street and John Orr. In addition he is survived by his extended Ollis family, Lue Ollis Carter, Lois Ollis Rabb, Gene and Brownell Ollis Allman, Doyle and Grace Ollis Calhoun, Bob Ollis and Faith Lacey and Joe and Glenna Ollis, with whom he spent many happy times at the Ollis home place in Cranberry, NC, and in their homes.
The funeral service for Mr. Honeycutt will be conducted on Friday, September 9, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Gene Honeycutt and Rev. Grace Calhoun officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jean Honeycutt.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from Noon-2:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, 136 Warrior Lane, Johnson City, at other times.
Interment will follow the funeral service on Friday at the Hampton-Orr Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Honeycutt, Bob Tatum, Joe Ollis, Bob Ollis, Bill Hershey and Tim Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Calhoun, Gene Allman, James Finley and Leroy Brooks.
