W. Glendon Sutphin, Johnson City

W. Glendon Sutphin, 82, Johnson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 4, 2011, from the Center of Aging & Health, Erwin, TN.
A native of Laurel Fork, VA, he was the son of the late Russell D. and Hallie Reece Sutphin. Mr. Sutphin worked for Vitro Laboratories Undersea Weapons Division for 39 years as a senior electrical engineer in middle management. Glen retired in December 1990, and moved to Johnson City in July of 1993. He was an active member at Our Saviour Lutheran Church and belonged to the Primetimers Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a sister, Pat Gibbs; and brother, Elwin Sutphin.
Glen is survived by his wife, Ellen Louise Sanford Sutphin, Johnson City; son, Jason Sutphin, Gray, TN; adoptive son and daughter from his 1st marriage, Steve Sutphin, California, and Cindy Cabrell, Hawaii; sisters, Lee Mullins, Virginia, Shelbie Maranka, Maryland, and Gloeda Alderman, Virginia; grandchildren, Selina & Nicholas Cabrell, Hawaii, Brandon Sutphin, Maryland, Aubrey, Julianne and Erik Sutphin, Gray, TN; and great grandchild, Sarah Machetta, California. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for W. Glendon Sutphin will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Johnson City, with Pastor James W. Nipper officiating.
Committal and Interment services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Steve Sutphin, Jason Sutphin, Larry Ecklund, Ross Blackmer, Carl Snyder and Ken Diehl.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M-8:00 P.M., on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, and on Thursday, September 8, 2011, from 10:00 A.M. until the service begins at the church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of W. Glendon Sutphin to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 212 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604.
