ELIZABETHTON — Barbara Jean Edwards, 70, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at her residence.
A native of Lexington, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Ivy Clarence and Doris Foster Johnson. She had lived in Elizabethton for the past 42 years. Barbara was a graduate of the Lexington Senior High School, Lexington, North Carolina. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Edwards; two brothers; and one sister.
She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. Barbara was a wonderful mother and mimi.
Survivors include Two Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Rene & Dennis Carpenter and Leanne & Todd Manning, all of Elizabethton; Two Grandchildren: Morgan Manning and Macala Carpenter; One Brother and sister-in-law: J.C. and Judy Johnson; Two Sisters & Brothers-In-Law: Irene & Carl Myers and Mary & Johnny Williams, all of North Carolina; Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Cecil Largent officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be: J.C. Johnson, Todd Manning, Dennis Carpenter, Wayne Vines, Gary Shingleton and Joey Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Wayne Shingleton and Tommy Shingleton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
