Louise Powers, Watauga

WATAUGA — Louise O’Quinn Powers, 84, of Watauga, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Bessie Humphries O’Quinn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor N. Powers; four brothers, Leonard O’Quinn, Claude O’Quinn, Frank O’Quinn and Henry O’Quinn; and a sister, Blanche Carroll.
Mrs. Powers loved to work outdoors and often referred to herself as the “weed eating woman of Cripple Creek.” She was a loving and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of Cripple Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Louise is survived by four children, Steven Powers and his wife, Misty, of Watauga, Terry Powers, of Elizabethton, Katherine “Susie” Powers, of Roan Mountain, William “Bill” Powers and his wife, Betty, of Elizabethton; two grandchildren Matthew Powers and Zackary Powers, both of Watauga; three sisters, Doris Lash and her husband, Leo, of Elizabethton, Jean Scalf, of Watauga, and Deloris Brown, of Virginia Beach, VA; and a brother, Richard “Bud” O’Quinn and his wife, Linda, of Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Wanda Lee Scalf, Carol Scalf, Linda O’Quinn and Jean Scalf for all the love and care shown to Louise during her illness.
The funeral service for Mrs. Powers will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 1, 2011, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Charles Guinn Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2011, in the Scalf Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home Friday at 10:00 A.M. to travel together in procession. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Scalf, Josh Scalf, Sidney Powell, Justin Johnson and Mark Salyers.
