Mary Arsella ‘Arrie’ Land, Johnson City

2 Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Mary Arsella (Arrie) Foster Land went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Appalachian Christian Village.
Arsella was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on November 7, 1915, to James G. Foster and Elizabeth Hitchfield Foster. When she was 18 years old, her mom passed away leaving Arsella to help run the family business and care for her younger sisters.
She graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham, AL, and taught elementary and middle school age children. Among her favorite activities were playing the piano, teaching, reading her Bible and going out to eat with friends.
She married Robert Alfred (Al) Land in 1942. Together they had several businesses in Meridian, MS, and San Antonio, TX. Al passed away in 1985. Upon moving to Johnson City, TN, she attended Heritage Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.
Arsella Land is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Jim Kelley; three grandsons and their wives, Stephen and Gayla Kelley, Michael and Heather Kelley, and Jonathan and Amanda Kelley; eight great grandchildren, Emily, Elisha, Erin, Enslee, Noah, Jenny, Samuel and Jacob.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Appalachian Christian Village and Caris Healthcare for their excellent and loving care given to Arsella. The family would also like to give a special thank you to her church family, Heritage Baptist, and especially her Sunday school class for their love and prayers.
A Celebration of Life Service for Arsella will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2011, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Pastor Kenn Hecht, Lissie Turnage and Ray Turnage officiating.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 10:00 AM till the service hour.
A Committal and Interment service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
