Dean Vines, Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON — Dean Vines, age 70, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, August 29, 2011, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Grover and Bessie Timbs Vines. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, and enjoyed trains, gardening and old cars.
Mr. Vines had previously worked at Smithdeal’s, Giant Wholesale, and Tetrick Funeral Home. He also worked at Kroger and Fleming Foods for 18 years each.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Markham Vines, January 16, 2002; two brothers, J.C. Vines, Winston Vines; an infant brother, Raymond Vine;, two sisters, Nell Cates, Orlena Gouge; and an infant sister, Velna Vines.
Survivors include four sons, Tim Vines and wife, Lisha, Elizabethton, Jeff Vines and wife, Robin, California, Tony Vines and wife, Christina, Kingsport, Jody Vines and wife, Kristy, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Joseph Vines and wife, Brandy, Watauga, Holden Vines, Johnson City, Jake Vines, Heather Vines, both of Elizabethton, Delaney Vines, Sian Vines, both of California, A.J. Vines, Samuel Vines, both of Kingsport; one great grandson, Connor Vines, Watauga; two brothers, Otis Vines, Hampton, Ed Vines, Maryland; and one sister, Billie Taylor, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Vines will be conducted at 7 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2011, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday from 5 PM until 7 PM prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 AM Friday, September 2, 2011, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Nave, Orris Densford, Ray Lawson, R.V. Arnold, Richard Tester, Bob Vines, Tracy Trott and Steve Dunlap. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Buckles, Kent Williams, Jim Birchfield, Johnny “Magic” Dadzie, Curt Walsh, Ken Rhotenberry, Bob Rutledge and Gene Estep. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are ask to meet at the funeral home on Friday, at 9:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
