Edwin C. Alexander Jr., Elizabethton

Edwin Crawford Alexander, Jr., 94, formerly of 601 N. Main Street, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of the late E.C. Alexander, Sr., and Lillian Gardner Alexander and was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Bowers Alexander; two brothers, Thad C. Alexander and James Henry Alexander; and one sister, Virginia Daugherty.

Mr. Alexander was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, receiving B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Business Administration. He was an insurance agent and owner of E.C. Alexander Insurance from 1950 until his retirement in 1983. He was an Elizabethton City Commissioner from 1952 to 1956 serving as Vice Mayor and was also a Director of Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank for 26 years. An Elder and lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Alexander also attended Sunday School at First Free Will Baptist Church where he had many friends. He was a U.S. Army Veteran selected in the first peace time draft in 1941 and rising from the rank of Private to Captain at the time of his discharge in 1946. He was an avid supporter of UT Athletics and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Elizabethton at one time holding 54 years perfect attendance along with being honored by the membership as a Paul Harris Fellow.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law; Joseph Crawford Alexander and his fiancée Cheryl Timbs, Edwin C. III and Sonya Alexander, and Joe L. and Debbie Alexander; four granddaughters, Kitty Alexander, Anne Alexander, Amanda Kincaid and spouse, Brian, and Lauren Barrett and spouse, Dustin; and two great granddaughters, Ava and Emme Kincaid. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Geraldine Bowers Baker, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Edwin Crawford Alexander, Jr., will be conducted at 10 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Interment to follow the funeral service at the Highland Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Active pallbearers will be Richard Barker, Dustin Barrett, Kim Birchfield, Kenneth Carter, Matthew Cooter, Leonard Febuary, Kelly Geagley and Brian Kincaid. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of the Rotary Club of Elizabethton; the Directors and employees of Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank, his tennis companions, the Monday night bridge group, and his friends and neighbors on North Main Street. The family will receive friends in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace on Monday, August 29, 2011 from 5 PM until 8 PM. Friends may also call at the residence of sons, Edwin or Joe at anytime.
