The Rev. Weldon Bowman, Rogersville

ROGERSVILLE — Rev. Weldon L. Bowman, 89, of Rogersville, claimed his crown of righteousness on Monday afternoon at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital in Rogersville.
He was the eldest son of the late Elbert S. Bowman Sr. and Martha Gladys Barnes Bowman, of Johnson City.
From an early age, Bowman was a minister of the gospel, pastoring numerous Free Will Baptist churches in East Tennessee and also doing evangelistic work. Even as a resident of Signature Healthcare, where he lived for the past year and a half, he continued his gospel ministry by witnessing to all with whom he came in contact.
Bowman was well-known for his quick wit, musical skills, honesty and integrity.
He retired from Holliston Mills after 25 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Bowman was predeceased by four brothers Dalton, A.J., Elbert Jr., and Billy Bowman; two sisters Nancy C. Bowman and Wanda Church; brothers-in-law J.D. Edens, Edgar Church and Lee Jones; and sisters-in-law Virginia Compton, Kathleen and Betty Bowman.
Survivors include his widow, Anna Lou Edens Bowman, Rogersville; twin sons, Jim (Paula) Bowman, Rogersville, and Jerry (Becky) Bowman, Surgoinsville; a sister, Jo Ann Jones, Jonesborough; four brothers, Dr. Jim (Helen), Gray, Ray (Dorothy Jo), Johnson City, Tony (Kathy), Jonesborough, Rev. Robert W. (Lorraine) Bowman, Knoxville; grandchildren, Brandon (Brandy), Brian, Michael (Alejandra), Chris and Stephen (Alyssa) Bowman and Kayla (Dylan) Cradic; great-grandchildren, Ethan Goan, Andres Bowman and Channing Cradic; sisters-in-law, Francis and Nellie Bowman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Christian-Sells Funeral Home of Rogersville with services following with Rev. Doug Seymore and Rev. John North officiating.
Burial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in McKinney Cemetery in Rogersville with Rev. Bowman’s brothers officiating.
