John Hensley, Elizabethton

John D. Hensley, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
He was the son of the late James M. Hensley, Sr. and Irene Pierce Hensley and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James M. Hensley, Jr., two brothers-in-law, Darrell Campbell, and Paul Treadway, a sister-in-law, Helen Hensley and two nephews, Jeffrey Campbell and Joe Treadway.
He attended Elizabethton High School and in his third year he joined the United States Army and served during WWII. He was a deacon, choir director, and the Sunday School Superintendant at Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Faye Hensley of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony L. and Dianna Hensley and Mike and Kim Hensley, all of Johnson City; one grandson, Gary Hensley and his wife, Theresa; great-grandchildren, Cody Hensley, Dustin Hensley; step-grandsons, Daniel Bratton, John Mark Bratton; step-great-grandchildren, Brent McClain and his wife, Rachel, Cody Honeycutt and his wife, Nichole; Eric Bratton, Bethany Bratton; step-great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Honeycutt, Jayda McClain; a sister, M. Marie Treadway, Elizabethton and a sister-in -law, Madge Campbell of Ohio.
The funeral service for Mr. Hensley will be conducted on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Shane Waters officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from Noon to 1:00 PM Tuesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.
Interment will follow the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Little Doe Free Will Baptist, Dr. Bremer, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Wiegand.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staffs of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Hillview Health Center for all the love and care shown to Mr. Hensley and the family.
