Dorothy Shuffler, Elizabethton

ELIZABETHTON — Dorothy G. Shuffler, age 88, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Reuben and Leona Barnett Greer.
Mrs. Shuffler had a real passion for life. She loved to travel, and was very well known by all for her wonderful cooking. Her love of writing touched the hearts of many. Even her simplest letters were of great inspiration. She was a member of McGill Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shuffler was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Woody, William G. Forbes and Carrick Shuffler; a son, Wallace W. Woody; and a brother, Crockett Greer.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Gardner and Debra Carmon, both of Elizabethton; a son, J. Scott Shuffler and his wife, Kimberly, Huntsville, Alabama; six grandchildren, Caleb Shuffler, Ethan Shuffler, and Isaac Shuffler, all of Huntsville, Alabama, Bart Gardner, Jonesborough, Melissa Click, Waynesville, Missouri, and Dr. Josh Carmon, St. Louis, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Kenda Little, Sarah Gardner, Chloe Gardner, Amanda Howe, and Logan Mathis; special cousins, Wynona Holland of Elizabethton, and Osma Culbertson of Maryville, TN; and a niece, Gail Lassiter of Florida.
The memorial service for Mrs. Dorothy G. Shuffler will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 21, 2011 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. John Christianson and Rev. Gary Pate officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte Smith.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service. Private disposition will be held at a later date.
