Ezell Birchette, Johnson City

Mrs. Ezell Johnson Birchette, 808 North Boone St. was born April 8, 1921 in Johnson City, TN. to the late Dr. James Henry Johnson and Nannie Williams Johnson.
She joined Thankful Baptist Church at an early age. Mrs. Birchette graduated from Langston High School, Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD and received a masters degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Ezell taught at Dunbar Elementary and Langston High School in Johnson City, TN. She also taught at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She retired from public school system of Detroit, MI after serving there 22 years.
Mrs. Ezell was a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc Sorority and Pi Lambda Theta, and American Home Economics Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Birchette.
Mrs. Ezell leaves to mourn her passing foster sister, Ezell B. Richardson (Charles) of Upper Marlboro, MD, several nieces nephews and cousins, Lucille Williams Hamilton of Chabanse, IL., Ruby Johnson Moore of Indianapolis, IN, Fredrick Breedlove, Coleen and Victoria Whitehead Knoxville, TN; and special friend Alberta Harris Johnson City, TN.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Birchette Mortuary “Chapel of Love” with Rev. C. D. Johnson officiating with Burial to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM prior to the services. Words of comfort to the family can be sent on our website.
