John Hawkins, Gray

Mr. John A. Hawkins, age 81, Gray, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Hawkins was a native of Washington County and son of the late Samuel & Pearl Cash Hawkins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Hamilton.
He was a member and Deacon of Highland Church of Christ and former member and Deacon of Boones Creek Christian Church. He was a faith servant of the Lord.
Mr. Hawkins retired from Tennessee Eastman Company. He had worked for Clinchfield Railroad for seven years and a number of years for Bradshaw Excavation.
He delivered Meals on Wheels, enjoyed camping, was an avid woodworker, collected antique tractors and was a steam engine enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Frazier Hawkins, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Penny & Chad Cox, Gray; two sons and daughter-in-law, Eric & Jill Hawkins, Jonesborough and Ryan Hawkins, Gray; grandchildren, Addy Hawkins, Daniel Cox and Matthew Cox; brothers, S.G. Hawkins, Gray and Bob Hawkins, Johnson City; sister, Lucille Milhorn, Gray; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Minister Byron Paddock officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.
Interment services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2011 at Highland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ed Brown, Curtis Proffitt, Joe Frazier, Bob Hawkins, Argil Barker and Sheilds Bradshaw.
