Walter R. Ross, age 91, died suddenly at the Johnson City Medical Center on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Mr. Ross was a resident at Pine Oaks Assisted Living Center, Johnson City, TN.
A native of Mayfield, KS, he was a son of the late John Blair and Neva Marr Ross.
He was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Mr. Ross attended Wichita State University and retired as an aeronautical engineer from Boeing Aircraft after 45 years of employment there.
He served in church leadership for many years as Elder at the West Side Christian and the Town and Country Christian churches in Wichita, KS. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Wichita, but most recently attended Grandview Christian Church, Johnson City, TN.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Mardel Schoeppel Ross, in 2007; a brother, Alfred Ross; and a sister, Betty Mae Randall.
Survivors include a son, Calvin Ross and wife, Nancy, Johnson City, TN; a daughter, Barbara Jean George and husband, Robert, Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Bryles and Esther Christie; and a brother, Ralph Ross.
A memorial service for Mr. Ross will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2011, in the chapel of Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater, KS, with an inurnment to follow in the Clearwater Cemetery.
