MEMPHIS — Dr. N.E. Tillman (Ed) peacefully departed his home to join his Heavenly Father on Monday August 8, 2011.
He was preceded in death last October by his beloved wife, Ann Kincaid Tillman.
The son of John V. and Lessie Patterson Tillman, he was born and reared in Jackson, TN. After serving his country aboard the USS Chester in WWII, he attended Union University in Jackson followed by Dental College at the University of Tn Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis.
He married Ann and began a general dentistry practice in Memphis. Subsequently, he received a degree in Orthodontics from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He then returned with his family to Memphis, where he practiced orthodontics for many years and was loved and admired by both his patients and their families.
He enjoyed extending his practice in later years to Johnson City, TN, where he was able to join his son, Dr. John Tillman, at his periodontal office.
Ed, an avid hunter and fisher was a lover of nature all his life. His love of life and people extended to every area of his life. He truly enjoyed people; they knew it and loved him too. His kindness, wit, sense of humor, and wonderful laugh made a lasting impression on them all, from his many close friends to those he knew only peripherally.
These qualities were exemplified in his home, where his life demonstrated these values to his children.
A loving and generous man to all who knew him, he leaves many friends as well as a son, four daughters, and twelve grandchildren: Mrs. Lynne McComiskey with husband, Mr. Robert McComiskey, of Hammond LA, Dr. John E. Tillman of Johnson City TN [Dr. Matthew (Sydney), and John], Dr. Jane Germany with husband, Dr. Brad Germany [Brad, Anna, and John], of Albany GA, Mrs. Sally Fowler with husband, Dr. Todd Fowler [Sarah Catherine, Edward, Preston and Elizabeth Ann], of Johnson City TN, and Mrs. Amy Dodd with husband, Dr. David Dodd [Garrett, Hope, and Colin], of Lakeland FL.
The family extends a special thanks to Trissia Overstreet and her staff whose kindness and compassion gave him comfort.
The family would welcome you at the visitation on Friday, August 8, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. with services immediately following at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis TN.
Those who wish to offer a memorial in Dr. Tillman’s honor may choose to send flowers or a contribution to either Smile Train or Second Presbyterian Church Missions.
