Lois Gouge, Bakersville, N.C.

BAKERSVILLE, N.C. — Lois Byrd Gouge, age 89, of NC Hwy 226, Bakersville, NC, passed away August 8, 2011, at Mission Healthcare Memorial Campus in Asheville, NC.
She was born in Mitchell County, NC, to the late Rayburn “Rabe” and Mable Webb Byrd.
She was a Homemaker and a member of Red Hill Methodist Church, Mitchell County Library Board, Mitchell County Historical Society and Manhattan Project, Oak Ridge TN. She was also an avid Bridge Player.
Survivors include daughters, Susie Styles and husband, Bob, of Spruce Pine, NC, Janice Greene and husband, Claude, of Morganton, NC, and Cindy Lawson and fiance, John Wadsworth, of Spruce Pine, NC; three brothers, James Byrd, Brad Byrd and wife, Pauline, and Jack Byrd and wife, Annette, all of Bakersville, NC; sister in law, Lena Masters, of Green Mountain, NC; seven grandchildren, Ralph Strickland, Sam Strickland, Chris Greene, Traci Davenport, Ryan Pendley, John Lawson and Thomas Lawson; nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Sam Gouge; sister, Betty Ayers; and brother, Hayes Byrd.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 4:00 PM in Red Hill United Methodist Church with Jody Campbell officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service.
