John Treadway Jr., Jonesborough

Mr. John Treadway, Jr. age 92, Jonesborough, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Treadway was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was born August 18, 1918 to the late John Landon & Lura McGee Treadway. In addition to his parents, Mr. Treadway was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Wildred Randolph Treadway, one daughter, Gerry Treadway Buck; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys & Clyde Allen; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Betty Treadway, sister-in-law, Ina Sue Treadway, and a brother-in-law, Robert Bolton.
He was the oldest member of New Victory Baptist Church attending faithfully until his illness prohibited his attending. He served as Deacon and was a brother in Christ. He was a great contributor to his community with a great love for his country. He was a member of the Jonesborough Masonic Lodge #47. He received Man of the Year Award from the Conklin Ruritan.
Mr. Treadway was instrumental in starting the rabies vaccination in Washington County. He collected the funds for installing fire hydrants and installed flag poles to display Tennessee State and American Flags through out the Conklin Community.
Mr. Treadway retired from North American Rayon and was a life long farmer. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to mourn his passing his son and caregivers, John E. Treadway and wife, Edith; his precious and only grandchild, Tammy Buck Whitlock and husband Tim Whitlock; one brother, Eugene Treadway and sister, Evelyn Bolton; three nieces and one nephew, eleven great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at New Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ponder, Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Chaplain Dwayne Baird officiating. Interment will follow in New Victory Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Howard Farthing, Steve Cooper, Tim Carver, Gene Mullins, Benton Slemons, Monty Treadway and Brad Slemons. Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Buck, Billy Jack Slemons, David Bolton, Darrell Woods and Kenny Woods.
