Bill L. Isenberg, age 73, of Johnson City, TN passed away Sunday, July 31, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 4, 1938 in Washington County, TN and had lived his entire life in the Gray and Johnson City area. He was a son of the late Alvin Isenberg and Una Grace Fink Isenberg. In addition to his parents a son, Billy Isenberg; a daughter, Lisa Ann Isenberg; two brothers, Charles (Sollie) Isenberg and Bruce (Cooter) Isenberg; and a sister, Nettie Hicks preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Vicky Farmer and granddaughter, Kayla Elizabeth Farmer of Johnson City, TN; a son, Michael Isenberg of Gray; former wife, Betty Isenberg; sister-in-law, Verda Vance Lawson of Watauga, TN; sister, Ina Freeman and husband, Jack, of Church Hill, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bill was retired from Holston Defense in Kingsport, TN and was affectionately known as “Hammer” by many friends and co-workers. In his final years, he enjoyed reading, gardening, and time with his children and family. He shared many interests and hobbies with his devoted friend, Janssen, who was by his side until his final days – to give him love, blessings, and spiritual guidance. Bill was also devoted to his friend and care provider of 4 years, “Sheri” who named him “Poppy”.
A special thank you to “Sheri”, Rachelle, Linda, Rachael, and Tammy for their love and caretaking of Bill during his final years. Bill was a devoted father and friend to all that knew him. He had a deep love for nature and the beauty of the mountains in East Tennessee.
At his request, a private family gathering and a ceremonial cremation will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6 – 7 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating.
