Evelyne Giles, Johnson City

Evelyne H. Giles, age 88, Johnson City, passed away at her residence Saturday, July 30, 2011, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Cramerton, NC, she was a daughter of the late Elam Norris and Emma Lee Hamrick. She was reared in the Presbyterian faith and was a former member of Princeton Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, TN. Evelyne was a homemaker, but had worked several years as a secretary for her husband.
In addition to her parents, Evelyne was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters; Horace and Glen Hamrick, Edna Sewell, Ollie Brendle, Ivera Andrews, Dorothy Burgess, and Rachel Barfield. She is survived by her husband of almost sixty-eight years, James I. Giles; one daughter, Karen Lynn Haren, and husband, Sam; one son, Ven Giles; one grandson, Grant Rowland III, and wife Tiffany; three great grandchildren, Eden, Luke and Ally Rowland; twin sister, Irene Michael, Stanley, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Suzy and Andy of NHC Homecare for all the love and care they showed Evelyne. Also, the family thanks the Caris Hospice staff for all their loving support during the last week. Words simply cannot adequately express the love we have for Wanda Laughren, who has been such a dear friend to Evelyne and the family throughout the years.
The graveside service for Evelyne will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Rev. Garland Thayer officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
