Arlie Joe Woods Sr., Elizabethton

Arlie Joe Woods, Sr., age 66 of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, July 23, 2011 at NHC Healthcare, Johnson City, following an extended illness.
A native of Elk Park, NC, he was a son of the late Arlie Baxter and Iva Lee Arnett Woods. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Woods was a past employee of Gordon Furniture having worked there for 20 years. He was a Carter County Constable for 12 years and a County Commissioner for 8 years. He was a member and former President of B and K Community Center. Mr. Woods was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Woods, a son, Arlie “Little Joe” Woods, Jr., and one great grandson, Christopher Jaden Fair.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruby Faye Cox Woods, of the home, two sons, Kenneth Woods and wife, Sherri, Elizabethton, Carlos Cox and wife, Kim, Mountvale, VA, one daughter, Jodie Woods Fair and husband, Christopher, Elizabethton, five granddaughters, Ashley Spates and husband, Brett, Whitney Wordle and husband, Keith, Breanna Woods, Kenzie Gibson, all of Elizabethton, Kathlyn Cox, Iowa, five grandsons, Galvin and Dalton Woods, Elizabethton, Anthony Cox, Iowa, Ethan Cox, VA, Wesley NcNeal Cox and Dillon Booher both of Elizabethton, six great grandchildren, Rachel, Cheyenne, Isabella, Ryan, A.J. and Sophia, one brother, David Woods and wife, Jackie, Hampton, one sister, Katie Woods Baird, Johnson City, two brothers-in-law, Earl Cox and wife, Pearl, Paul Cox and wife, Martha, all of Elizabethton, two sisters-in-law, Carol Staples and husband, George, Norfolk, VA, Doris Woods, Maryville, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Gerald Holly, Minister and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, from 5 PM until 7 PM prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of a son, Kenneth Woods, 163 Deloach Road, (423) 297-1111, Elizabethton, anytime.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 AM, Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in the George Mottern Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Paul Cox, Robert Cox, Christopher Fair, Brett Spates, Robert Gobble, Galvin Woods, Dalton Woods and Bobby Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Blevins and Frank Richardson. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are ask to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 27, at 9:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
