Geraldine Merriman, Jonesborough

Published July 21st, 2011 9:07 pm

Mrs. Geraldine Merriman, 93, entered into God’s infinite mercy Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at her residence in Jonesborough.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, she held a special fondness for her hometown, even after moving to Jonesborough for the last three years of her life.
She prided herself in the education she received at Mt. Mercy College, and then later at Duquesne University, where she earned her bachelors degree. Throughout her life, she possessed an admirable work ethic, which she attributed to helping out in her family owned store, Select Market. Later, she devoted much time and energy to her job as a librarian at St. Winifred’s School. She dearly loved her role as an educator and instilled her love of literature in the children she taught.
Gerry was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence I. Merriman; her parents, Ben and Daisy Grana; and her elder brother, Phillip C. Grana.
She is survived by her brother, David Charles Grana; her nieces and nephews; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Carolyn Merriman; and her grandchildren Jamie, Kim, Kenny, Gale, Mark, Anna, Renee, Kathleen, Thomas, and Margaret. She also had six great grandchildren, whom she deeply cherished.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with a Rosary following at 8:00 p.m.
Mass of Resurrection Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Peter Iorio officiating.
Interment services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA.
