Jack Carter, Kingsport

KINGSPORT — Buron (Jack) Carter, 80, of Kingsport, passed away at 5:30 am on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Brookhaven Manor in Kingsport.
He held a B.S. Degree in Education from East TN State College (1958) and a Masters Degree in Math from Union College, Barbourville, KY (1975). He was a lifetime member of P.T.A., N.E.A., T.E.A., E.T.E.A. and S.C.E.A. He was retired in 1986 from the Sullivan County Board of Education with 30 years of service as a Mathematics Teacher. Jack is a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He is also a member of the American Legion Hammond Post #3.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hascue and Virgie Qualls Carter; a son, Rodney L. Carter and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Katie B. Carter of the home; two daughters, Jo Ann Arnold & husband Gary and Cathy Bowser, all of Kingsport; a son, Milton Carter & wife, Carolyn of Unicoi; four grandchildren, Brandi Hutson, Jeremy Arnold, Matthew Carter and Maegan Bowser; four great grandchildren, Dakota, Jayden, Jaxon and Emma; sister, June Brickey & husband, Ted of Kingsport; two brothers, James P Carter of Gray and Orbin J. Carter & wife, Joyce of Jonesborough; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Colonial Heights Christian Church, 105 Meadow Lane, Kingsport or anytime at the home. Funeral services will be held at 8pm with Elder David Moody and Minister Stan Leonard, officiating.
Military graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville, conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Pallbearers will be friends and relatives. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:55 pm.
