Thomas ‘Tom’ Kendrick, Gate City, Va.

GATE CITY, Va. — Thomas (Tom) H. Kendrick, 84 of Gate City, VA, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Tom retired from Tennessee Eastman Chemical Company after 42 years of service. He was a member of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for many years and a member of the church choir. He was also a lifelong member of Copper Creek Ruritan Club, where he served as Treasurer as long as his health permitted.
He loved taking care of his yard and vegetable garden and singing with the Midway Quartet and the Scott County Choir.
Tom was preceded in death on June 22, 2011, by his wife of 64 years, Emogene Strong Kendrick, whom he adored. Tom was also preceded in death by his parents, Loda and Verda Kendrick; brother, Bill Kendrick; his brother-in-law, A.B. Evans; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Oscar and Ida Mae Hobbs Strong; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rex and Thelma McConnell and Barnie and Cleo Strong.
He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, LaWanda and Willie Mack Musick; grandchildren, Rebecca and Neal Baker, Tommy and Cookie Musick, Kellie and Chris Quillen; great grandchildren, Hannah Musick, Katie Beth Musick, Gracie Musick, Carly Quillen, Evan Baker, Olivia Baker, all of Gate City, VA; sisters, Evelyn and Earl Jessie, of Covington, VA, Olla Bell Evans, of Greeneville, TN; brother, Roy and Galola Kendrick, of Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law, Wanda Kendrick, of Mt. Carmel, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 14, 2011, at Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City, VA, and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Allen Karnes and Rev. Don Large officiating. Music will be provided by Midway Memorial United Methodist Church Choir.
Pallbearers will be Willie Mack Musick, Tommy Musick, Chris Quillen, Neal Baker, Evan Baker, Don Strong, Shane Strong, John Hollowell, and Mike Carrico. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be at 1 1:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2011, at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mack Hicks and staff and Wellmont Hospice for the loving care they have given.
